Joint Princeton-Northwestern Junior Scholars'
Workshop

Recent research in the social sciences has explored theoretical and empirical implications of the embedding of economic enterprises within social, political and cultural institutions. We are organizing a workshop for young scholars to bring together comparative empirical and theoretical research focused on the embedded enterprise.
Economic activities, manifested in the actions and preferences of firms and other economic organizations, are embedded within institutional environments that vary cross-nationally. These environments are structured by state policies, cultural norms and social and political interactions. Economic organizations, situated within these institutional environments, are at once influenced by and in turn impact the way these environments are structured.
The workshop will take place on the campus of Princeton University beginning on Thursday afternoon, April 11 through Sunday, April 14, 2002. Based on their proposals, 23 junior scholars from around the world have been invited to participate in the workshop with five eminent social scientists as faculty mentors.
