Workshop

This session will take place after lunch on Saturday (12:45 to 2:45 pm). Meeting rooms are listed next to the group to which you have been assigned. We scheduled it for this time to provide a break from the intensity of small group discussions and to allow for interaction with a different group of participants.
The idea of this session is to allow participants working on the same country or region to meet each other, share region-specific experiences and to develop theoretical constructs for a concluding plenary discussion on Sunday morning. While participants in this session may have significantly different approaches to the subject of the workshop, they may well be people you will meet regularly in the future due to your interest in the same region. Participants have been provided with a set of critical questions via email attachment (also included separately in this package). These questions are intended to provide a framework for the substantive discussions in the regional sessions.
Participants have been divided into four groups based on the country or region of their research. The groups range from four to six people in size and are labeled: China, Europe, Japan, and emerging market nations. Each group also has been assigned at least one faculty mentor.
A faculty mentor will chair this session. Each group member will briefly review her/his research objectives focusing on the particular understanding of embeddedness that is central to her/his work.
Each regional group will then be asked to prepare (for presentation during the closing plenary on Sunday morning) a very brief synopsis of the group's response to the following question:
What theoretical concepts can scholars working on other regions take away from research on embeddedness in your country or region?
